The Foundation

Founded in 2000 by decree of the Ministry for the material and cultural activities by the transformation of the same name group, in turn created in 1985, is one of those processes to which private citizens align themselves with voluntary activities sharing the objectives and modalities for achieve them.
Among the statutory purposes, the members recognize many priorities. The first match with all the activities and initiatives that bring in motion energies and skills, in order to broaden the understanding of historical and artistic heritage and environmental-landscape of the city and its region, with all the problems and difficulties inherent in its protection and preservation both in terms of management practices and legislative support equipment.

The pursuit of this objective is achieved through activities and targeted initiatives, which bear a group of advisers-members of skills and dedication, ranging from guided tours to individual monuments or pieces of cities in the province, conferences, debates, seminars, exhibitions, and to studies and research which are included in publications iconographic part of a series entitled to know and protect and part in the magazine PER Salvare Palermo, which collects all the reports and allegations of tampering or degradation of cultural and environmental considerations which stories and searched and all suggestions that animate the Board of the Foundation.
Other objectives, resulting in the first, show the impulses that over the years have been aimed at preventing, or at least to deal with, every process of decay, deterioration, tampering, or sometimes improper handling, which has concerned this heritage in or perspective.
The cultural heritage of Sicily, that the Foundation considers the collective good inalienable, unique and unrepeatable, and for which strives to be known, loved and respected by citizens, is the primary object of attention. Without other interests than those of view as much as possible taken care of and maintained under excellent conditions, under the ancient culture which witnesses and potential of development which is compatible. In this perspective are therefore even, or especially, restoration works, which are equal to its modest financial resources, which pursues Salvare Palermo since its birth as a group and that is the recognizable figure of its "make" tangible in favor of the city and its cultural heritage. With the restoration of statues, paintings. portals, stairways, small artefacts of historic and artistic importance, Salvare Palermo has developed a good number of concrete actions for the recovery of works offenses by time and neglect of men, giving them back to fruition and the admiration of citizens .

For all the aims and activities of which the Foundation has made load over time, you may well reason to speak of a complete people participation in the fate of their cultural heritage, then the implementation of private management of public a part of it, although small in size of works and use of economic resources.
